Associate in health fitness specialist degree program
Our two-year AAS in Health Fitness Specialist degree program includes required courses in health sciences (including anatomy, physiology and kinesiology) and hands-on training in exercise techniques, exercise program design and other technical and occupational areas. In addition to health and exercise science courses, you will study Microsoft Office Pro, small business management, and complete general education courses. Your externship will provide an opportunity to apply skills and knowledge from those classes in the workplace and add industry experience to your resume.
The associate degree program provides the health and fitness skills and knowledge to gain an entry-level position in the health, fitness, wellness or recreation industry. You will be qualified to assess health and fitness levels, design, implement, and promote safe effective exercise programs for various populations, screen clients for contraindications to exercise and sit for national certification exams.
At UCC, we emphasize hands-on training, and each of our campus locations — West Jordan (15 miles south of Salt Lake City Center), Layton and Orem — has a fitness lab. Some technical and occupational requirements and all general education requirements can be completed through online courses, providing students with maximum flexibility while maintaining the quality our school is known for.
