Course descriptionThe courses in the Associate of Applied Science in Powerplant Technology Degree Program are designed to provide the necessary educational opportunities through classroom and laboratory teaching for a person to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to enter the industry as an entry-level Powerplant Technician. Graduates will be eligible to take the Federal Aviation Administration examinations. Upon successful completion of the written exams, the graduate will be eligible to take the oral and practical examinations to complete the requirements for the FAA Powerplant Certificate. With the FAA Powerplant Certificate, the powerplant technician may enter a number of employment areas, such as general aviation, fixed-base operations, executive aircraft services, major airlines, aircraft contractors, modification operations, and manufacturers as powerplant technicians or technical writers. The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Powerplant Technology consists of 66 credit hours and 1318 contact hours, and is 40 weeks in length.
