Bachelor of Biosystems Engineering - Forest Engineering Option

  • Course description Forest engineering students receive academic training that addresses the engineering of forest systems, natural resources, and related manufacturing industries.  These engineers are employed using their skills in design, development, consulting, management, testing, construction, and research. Careers include forest operations management, forest and land management, environmental management and protection, machine development, process engineering, structural design, and natural resource conservation. Graduates of this program are eligible to become Professional Engineers (PE).

The degree program is designed to teach students to solve problems by considering engineering as well as biological aspects of natural resource systems. The curriculum melds together courses emphasizing problem-solving approaches and system-based approaches, including mathematics, physics, computer applications, engineering sciences, forest biology, forest measurements, surveying, forest economics, and forest management. In the senior year, students form a design team that develops a solution to an engineering problem presented by a cooperating industrial partner.  In addition, Auburn has paired with the Caterpillar Corporation to allow students to learn and participate in projects at the Forest Products Training Center.
