Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance

  • Course description If the constant change of today's economy gets your adrenaline pumping, then finance may be the right major for you. Finance courses prepare students for a wide variety of careers in the field, including portfolio management, financial analysis, and financial services like brokerage and banking.

    We also prepare students for further graduate training such as master's and doctoral programs, as well as professional designations such as the series 7 and 63 licenses and Chartered Financial Analyst (C.F.A.) and Certified Financial Planner (C.F.P.) designations.

    Faculty
    The faculty of the Finance Department takes pride in a mentoring approach to education. We work with our students as advisors, teachers, and career counselors. We strive to deliver a quality educational experience, as well as help students succeed in their careers.

    Special Features

    The nationally recognized Roland George Investments Program is a two-semester program in portfolio management that is open to select students who manage an actual portfolio valued at about $2.9 million.

    George students are seven-time champions at a national student-managed portfolio competition at the University of Dayton, excelling in four different portfolio categories. This is one of the oldest and arguably the best student-managed programs in the United States. Graduates have gone on to success as financial analysts and money managers, as well as further graduate training in finance, economics, mathematical finance, and law.

    Course Information
    In addition to the standard business core, Finance majors take specialized courses such as Business Finance, Investments, and Financial Management I and I. The major also requires three elective courses from a selection of Personal Finance, Multinational Finance, Financial Risk Management (Futures and Options Contracts), Equity Analysis and Portfolio Management, and Fixed Income Portfolio Management.

    Internship Opportunities

    Students have internship opportunities with brokerage and asset management firms, as well as in financial analysis. Some of the places Stetson students have interned include Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, KCM Asset Management, and Siemens Corporation.

    Career Opportunities

    Finance students have gone on to successful careers in brokerage and financial services, financial analysis, and asset management with Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Kennedy Capital Management, Waterstreet Captial Management, Siemens Corporation, University of Florida Law School, and Stetson Law School.
