Course descriptionThe Medical Biller & Coder is trained to work with health-related information and the systems used to collect, process, store, retrieve, and communicate information for the support of operations, management, and decision making with a medical facility or related industry. As computerization of information advances, the Medical Biller & Coder is vital to medical coding, computerized billing and patient care data analysis.
Classroom procedures
Each course stands alone as a unit of study and is not dependent upon prerequisite training. A student may enter the program at the beginning of any course and continue through the sequence until completion of all courses. The course work consists of lecture/demonstration and hands on computer laboratory procedures.
Externship
The externship is undertaken following the successful completion of all classroom training. Students work in a medical office or hospital. During the externship the student is allowed to perform the skills taught during the classroom portion of training. This externship is unpaid.
