Practical experienceThe core courses of study for the Master of Music program are the weekly private lessons and weekly studio masterclasses. The faculty of the School of Music consists of distinguished, practicing professionals. Each faculty member is highly qualified through experience and continued professional activity to offer individual attention and personal guidance. Students’ individual performance activities also have piano support by a team of pianists provided by the School of Music. All graduate students are required to prepare and perform two concert recitals.
Course descriptionAs a conservatory, the School’s focus is on preparing students to begin their careers as performing artists. The voice department through the A. J. Fletcher Opera Institute offers graduate students an extraordinary degree of personal attention and mentoring from faculty with active professional careers. At the A. J. Fletcher Opera Institute, we treat our students as professionals. Like you, we see your time here as more than just preparation for a successful career in the arts. We see training as your full-time job – and we expect you to work. In order to fully develop your unique and extraordinary talents, you’ll need to devote considerable time, attention and energy to your craft. That’s why the Fletcher Institute is prepared to fully finance your education, including tuition, fees, and a generous living stipend to all accepted fellows each year.
While in residence, you’ll audition and perform in a number of full-scale productions each year, supported by a full orchestra and original scenic design. You’ll pursue a highly structured course of study specifically designed to nurture professional skills. You’ll develop advanced techniques in direction, acting, makeup, movement and language.
