Course descriptionPreservation faculty in the School of Architecture review the applications and recommend admission to the Graduate School. Prerequisites for admission include a baccalaureate degree and prior coursework in design and architectural history. The history prerequisite can be met with 6 credits of coursework, typically a two-semester survey course in world architectural history. The design prerequisite can be met with one 6-credit studio in architecture or a related field (e.g. landscape architecture, urban design, interior design). Prospective students who do not meet these prerequisites will not be at a disadvantage in the admissions process, but will be required to complete additional coursework to make them up.
In addition to the standard requirements, applicants must submit a writing sample and a statement of intent describing the student's objectives for graduate study in historic preservation at the University of Texas at Austin.
