The M.S. in Sustainable Engineering is designed to be a multi-disciplinary M.S. degree that can be undertaken either as a full-time or part-time option, and with or without a thesis option. In addition, a set of the core courses along with electives can be used to create a Sustainable Engineering certificate that would be complementary to the existing College Departmental Master’s degree programs.
This is also for the non-engineering degree holder.
In some cases, an applicant from a non-traditional field may be eligible to pursue the degree provided he/she can present evidence of proficiency in:
- Mathematics
- Basic Science
- Engineering Science
In the absence of such evidence, the applicant can be admitted provisionally but will be required to complete undergraduate prerequisite courses that will depend on the applicant’s background and intended track. These undergraduate courses will not count towards the degree. Upon completion, the candidate can then be granted regular admission status into the program.
Because of its multi-disciplinarity, the degree will require that all enrolled students take a core curriculum consisting of three courses in the general area of sustainability. These core courses will expose the student to the broad topic of sustainability with elements in engineering design and practice, policy, economics, societal implications, and ethics. Although the core courses may be offered within a specific department, they are available to all students pursuing the degree as their content has a wide range of applicability.
The proposed degree will require thirty (30) credits. Upon acceptance into the program, each student will be assigned an academic advisor who will assist the student in developing a program of study for the MS degree and along with the Program Coordinator, approve the plan of study
