Description
Combines business fundamentals and theory with a specialization and practical applications in the healthcare industry. The joint degree program gives students insight into the analytical and managerial aspects of healthcare, providing excellent preparation for management and executive-level careers with healthcare institutions, managed care firms, third-party program administrators, pharmaceutical companies, or community pharmacies. The Union Graduate College (UGC) MBA in Healthcare Management is accredited by both the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME)-a distinction shared by only 21 healthcare management programs in the nation.
What can you do when you graduate?
Having a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and a MBA in Health Care Administration will prepare you for a variety of careers in pharmacy and health care administration. Examples of possible career opportunities include:
* Third Party Administration - opportunities in drug program auditing, analysis of outcomes, pharmacy provider relations, physician detailing and program administration.
* Healthcare Informatics - possible careers in analysis of prescription and medical claim information to analyze past physician and other health care provider performance, and forecast future trends.
* Community pharmacy administration - possible opportunities in pharmacy unit management, marketing, staff recruitment.
* Pharmaceutical industry - graduates will be better prepared for positions in quality management, operations, marketing and sales, and have the skills to move up to positions of greater responsibility in general management.
Curriculum (subject to change):
The MBA in Healthcare Management is a 20-course degree program. Seven course requirements are met through course substitutions. The remaining 13 courses are usually completed on a part-time basis over a three-year period (years four to six at ACPHS). Combined Pharm.D./MBA candidates usually take summer MBA courses at Union Graduate College. The MBA program also requires an administrative internship. Selected Pharm.D. practicums can be applied to the internship requirement.
