Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico (PUPR) is a private, non profit, co-educational higher education institution founded in September, 1966. The main campus is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico, at the Hato Rey ward, quite close to the Golden Mile area. The main academic disciplines are: Engineering (seven programs), Geomatic Sciences, Architecture, Computer Sciences and Business Administration (four majors). At the present time, it is the largest private Engineering School in Puerto Rico and the only one in the district of San Juan. It is also the largest private Hispanic Serving Engineering School in the United States and its territories. In 2001 and 2003, the University opened new campuses in the cities of Miami and Orlando, Florida, respectively.

PUPR offers Bachelor of Science degrees in: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Land Surveying and Mapping and Computer Science; Bachelor of Business Administration degrees in: Accounting, Construction Management, General Management and Marketing. The institution offers also a Bachelor in Architecture.

At the graduate level the academic offerings are: Master of Science (MS) in: Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Manufacturing Competitiveness; Master of Engineering in: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering, Master in: Computer Sciences, Engineering Management, Environmental Management, Landscape Architecture, and Manufacturing Competitiveness: Master of Business Administration in: Computer Information Systems (E - Commerce & Data Base), General and Interdisciplinary, and International Enterprises.

PUPR is fully authorized by the Council of Higher Education of Puerto Rico (CHE), the state licensing agency, and accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) of the U.S.A. The five oldest engineering programs - Civil, Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical and Environmental - are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). In October of 2007, the ABET’s visiting team evaluated five programs for re-accreditation - Civil, Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, and Environmental. The three other programs submitted to the process - Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Land Surveying and Mapping - were evaluated for the first accreditation. All eight programs were accredited.

PUPR was recently designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE/IAE) for the years 2009-14.  This center is one of 100 in the nation – USA 50 states and its territories.  It indeed, speaks very well of our Computer Science and Computer Engineering programs at the undergraduate and the graduate levels.
