Studying the physical and biological sciences at a liberal arts college provides students with direct interaction with faculty in a small classroom setting, hands-on experience with modern laboratory equipment and instrumentation, and the opportunity to work with faculty on original scientific research projects.
We offer majors in
Chemistry and Biochemistry that effectively prepare students for post-baccalaureate employment and graduate school in chemistry, biochemistry or biology programs. Our majors are excellent choices for students planning careers in research, medicine, dentistry, and veterinary science. We also offer minors in Chemistry and Physics as well as an Environmental Chemistry Concentration in the Environmental Science and Policy major.
Hood students have opportunities to conduct research with faculty in our department as well as work in major research laboratories at nearby Fort Detrick, the National Institute for Standards and Technology, and the National Institutes of Health.
