Course description
The Department of English provides instruction in literature in English, expository and creative writing, film, cultural studies, and closely related fields. It is the function of the English Department to prepare majors for the B.A.S. degree and to offer required English courses to satisfy the University's Core Curriculum requirements and the School of Education's requirements. The program is designed to accommodate students who seek to broaden their familiarity with literature, to intensify their language skills for personal and professional reasons, and to learn more about the cultural function of literature and its relationship to other disciplines.
Our English faculty truly enjoy reading and writing and aim to help students reap the benefits of being comfortable with language. Therefore, we encourage students to explore a variety of literary genres and to practice different methods of expressing themselves in writing.
English majors are encouraged to join Alpha Delta Nu, a chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. Membership information is available from the faculty advisors.
