Intermediate /advanced level classes of variable Length are offered for
non-native speakers of
English. Emphasis is on vocabulary development, reading and writing needed to function effectively on the job, continued education or daily situations. Classes are available each quarter at no cost to the student on a space available basis. Placement test required.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course of study in the
ESL Program students should be able to:
- Demonstrate acquired/enhanced academic math, and language;life skills; including goal setting, time management; note taking; reading for recall and comprehension; Standard English writing skills; verbal discourse; and critical thinking including expression, development, interpretation, analysis and synthesis of ideas, reflecting the Washington State Learning Standards.
- Demonstrate developed, practiced and acquired habits for overcoming barriers, particularly as related to academic achievement.
- Successfully accede to the next ABE or ESL level and/or test at the entry requirements for the GED program or technical vocational programs at SVI.
