Course description
The University of Pennsylvania now offers an Adult Oncology Specialty Minor/Post Masters Certificate for graduate students pursuing a Masters degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in an adult advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) program or for adult APRNs currently practicing who desire academic preparation in the specialty of oncology nursing. As part of the requirements for the minor or post masters certificate, students must complete 3 courses listed below:
APRN students and practicing APRNs acquire didactic content and clinical experience in oncology nursing. Teaching methods include lecture, seminars, interactive discussions, case-based learning, discovery-based learning, independent guided studies, and clinical fieldwork. Course faculty have extensive experience in oncology nursing, and students interact with nationally recognized scientists and clinicians in the field of cancer care. Curricula are based on the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) 2007 Oncology Nurse Practitioner Competencies and 2008 Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist Competencies, and prepare nurses for Advanced Oncology Certification by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC).
